This hasn’t been a good day so far.

  • I spent $213 to get my car “fixed.”
  • I apparently am to blame for a mix-up that will cost MB the chance to sell a product in Europe.
  • I have been sick with flu-like symptoms all day long and by day’s end could barely walk to the car.
  • My car overheated on the drive home and I had to have a fireman help me.
  • Then my car overheated again and I had to stop at Super America for more water.
  • Then my car overheated again and I had to stop at the LaPlants and let it cool down for an hour.
  • Then I got stuck in road construction on Lake St for 20 minutes with my heat blasting.
  • Then I got home to find the Twins down 7-0 in the 4th inning.

Good time for a vacation day–which I conveniently scheduled for tomorrow.  Now if only I feel better.

1.8 Mile Walk Back to Work June 12, 2008

Today is the last day of work for the week before I depart for Milwaukee with Lauren, Sarah, and Walsh.  If we are going to take my car, I have to make sure it’s in perfect condition.  The last thing we need is to be stranded in the middle of Wisconsin with no vehicle.  Well, no, actually the last thing we need is to drive off a gorge and die in a painful, fiery crash.  Anyway, I took my car down to the local AutoWorks in Chanhassen around 10:30 this morning and left it there for the day.  It will cost $89 just to have them do all the testing to find out what, if anything, is wrong.  I always hear about places that have Free Diagnostics Testing but of the five places I’ve taken my car in the area all have charged for the service.

It was only 1.8 miles to drive there, according to Garmin, so I walked back to the office.  It was quite a nice day for a walk, but even in comfy 67 degree weather with a slight breeze and partly cloudy skies, I still came back to the office drenched in sweat.  I immediately ran to my chair and cranked up the fans.  Josh figured I’d just run a marathon or something the way I was sweating.  I should hear back in the next hour or two the diagnosis, and before making any decisions to operate on the car I will call Dad to see if I’m getting screwed over or not.

As for Milwaukee, all of us are very excited to hit the road bright and early tomorrow morning.  The hope is we can get to thet hotel around 2 so Lauren can watch her beloved Dutch team in the Eurocup at the hotel bar while we all pound back a few cold brews before the game.  Statistics shows that Minneapolis is second only to Milwaukee in the US in beer consumption, so we can expect some big partying this weekend in the city.  I don’t think the Twins/Brewers rivalry is anywhere close to the Vikings/Packers, but it still makes for some excellent local entertainment.  Patrick, Jim, and Andrew are going to be a block away at their hotel, so there’s a good chance we’ll at least bump into them.
