Here’s a photo gallery from my recent trip to Las Vegas and San Francisco! Starring me, Lauren Poulter, Josh Kleve, Barry King, and Sinbad.
And here’s a gallery from last night’s first night back home when we celebrated Patrick Lynch’s 26th birthday and Sherrie Hart’s 34th birthday.
Chargers lost today… hey, what can you expect from a team that was 4-8 at one point in the season? Since they were the late game today, I can honestly say they were the 5th-to-last team to be eliminated this year, which is kinda a nice achievement. Better than the Vikings, right?

Time for another quick morning post, live here from the Moscone Center in downtown San Francisco. We’ve still got a good 45 minutes before the show floor opens, but this is the only time I can get online for a few minutes.
Yesterday, Macworld kicked off its first day. We were quite busy here in booth 234 with lots of interested customers stopping by. Our next-door neighbors make an iPhone application that allows you to play the flute by blowing into your phone. They assembled an entire band of iPhone players and did “Stairway to Heaven” no fewer than 100 times. At first it was cool, but by mid-day we were requesting them to learn something new.
The show was tiring, but it went fairly quickly. We left promptly at 6, where Barry and I headed down to New Delhi for a delicious Indian dinner. We left stuffed to the brim and sweating bullets, just what you like to see from an Indian restaurant. I got back to the hotel around 8 and was planning on seeing a movie at the theater next door, but wound up staying in and talking to Lauren on the phone and watching ABC’s premiere of Scrubs, then reading a little before bed.
Not much else exciting to report from yesterday. I’m guessing it will be more of the same today. Tonight, the three of us plan to head down to the wharf and get some seafood for dinner.

First, of all, my computer received a bad virus while connected to the Planet Hollywood wireless network, so if I can actually type this before my computer restarts, consider it very lucky. Hopefully my computer will be able to hold up the rest of the trip so I can continue the updates.
The first two days of this trip were awesome. Then came Sunday, the day of saying goodbye to Las Vegas and attempting to get to San Francisco. I have officially flown on Southwest Airlines for the first and last time.
The day started off well enough. Lauren and I ordered in some room service breakfast and ate while watching the first NFL playoff game of the day, which started at 10am Pacific Time. We packed our things and sent our luggage to the bellhop service since we had a few hours to kill between hotel checkout and flight time. We wandered down to the Venetian to collect Lauren’s winnings from betting on the Chargers, then killed some time in the casino where I won another $50 or so. I figure I came out on top $100 altogether gambling! We stationed ourselves at a sports bar and watched the Vikings game for a while, then it was time to head to the airport.
Like I said earlier, I have never been apart from Lauren for more than two nighst since we first met, so I was sure it would be a sad goodbye at the airport when we had to go our separate ways. Sure enough, it was an emotional goodbye as Lauren headed for Gate C to board her plane back home, while I headed to Gate D to head on to San Francisco. It was about the same feeling I had when I had to go DJ a wedding in a cave the day after our engagement! I had a long time to wait for my 7:00 flight, so I read over half of Moneyball. Just when it looked like it was time to board, the flight was delayed an hour.
Once I finally boarded the plane and we had left the ground, the plane started shaking pretty bad. People were told to sit in their seats, fasten their seat belts, and everyone was given the rundown once again on flotation devices and oxygen masks. The bumpiness was really bad. The stewardesses couldn’t even stand up in the aisles. There were some panicky people on the plane. I tried to remain calm and kept on reading my book. The entire flight was like that until we finally started descension into SFO.
We had finally landed around 10pm, and I was anxiously waiting to grab my suitcase and head for the hotel. Of course, it couldn’t be that simple. I, and everyone else who checked our luggage curbside, discovered our luggage never arrived. All told it was about 25 to 30 people angrily standing in line at the luggage counter.
After two long hours, the luggage came in on the next flight from Vegas and I was rewarded a $75 Southwest travel voucher, as if I’ll even use it. Too tired to wait in line for the hotel shuttle, I just flagged down a cab. A man in a towncar pulled up and asked if I needed a cab, so I hopped in. The grand total on my five-minute ride to the Best Western was $45! I couldn’t believe it. But I was too tired to argue and just forked it over and checked in. It’s now 12:11am here and I’m about to go to sleep.
So, overall… It really was a miserable day once I got to the airport. I really had my suspicions that today would be like this. I had even considered mailing my luggage I’d need for the trade show to myself before I left home just to ensure this wouldn’t happen, but I backed out at the last minute and just checked it like everyone else. I’ll certainly miss Lauren over the next week, but I guess some people have it much worse off, being shipped off to Iraq or jail or something. I’m just at a conference for Macintosh, and in a fun city. So, hopefully things will improve as the week goes on.

Greetings once again from Las Vegas, Nevada! After a very long day yesterday which seems like several days ago, Lauren and I were all rested up and ready for another fun-filled day on the town.

$62 richer
We slept till about 9, then Lauren went down for a pedicure. While she was out, I wandered the Planet Hollywood casino. The first slot machine I came across was a roulette game. I put a $5 bill in and put a $1 bet down on the wheel to land on 36. And, to my amazement, it landed on 36. I was already up $36, so I put another $1 bet down on zero, and the wheel landed on zero. Two plays, and I already won $72. I lost a few more bets, but came back to the room up $62.
Next, we walked down the Strip to Harrah’s, where I was excited to eat at Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar and Grill. The food was very filling and delicious, and Toby Keith memorabilia filled the walls. I was in for a bit of a surprise, as Major League Hall of Famers Hank Aaron and Frank Robinson were sitting at the table next to us… I think… Lauren wasn’t convinced. Unfortunately, I was very sleepy after downing my “Who’s Your Daddy Margarita” and country fried steak, so I went to rest in the hotel room while Lauren hit the casino.
Around 5, I met back up with Lauren and we went to find a place to watch the Chargers playoff game. We wound up at the Miracle Mile Mall at a very random frozen drink stand that had the game going on. Every other place we tried was full of Charger fans. We drank some frozen concoctions while enjoying a thriller, with the Chargers winning it in overtime over the Colts.

Quite the view!
At night, Lauren and I went to Paris to the Eiffel Tower Restaurant. It was a very fancy restaurant and I wouldn’t dare reveal what the total bill was, but our table overlooked the Strip, including a beautiful view of the Bellagio water fountain displays. Wouldn’t you know it, I ran into someone I knew from DSU, Laridee Dibble, at that very restaurant at 11pm. What are the odds!
And those were the highlights of our very exciting, equally tiring Day #2. Very sadly, we must go to the airport tomorrow and part ways. Lauren will fly back to Minneapolis while I continue on to San Francisco. My trip is really just barely starting.

Greetings from Las Vegas! Wow, quite the first day Lauren and I had on our weekend getaway. When all was said and done and we went to bed, we had been awake for 22 consecutive hours.
We woke up just before 4am, got ready, finished packing, and got on the light rail to hook up with our flight at MSP Airport. We flew out as scheduled on NWA and arrived in Las Vegas at 8:15am PST. We cabbed it over to the Planet Hollywood Resort and were luckily able to check into our room right away.
PH turned out to be a pretty sweet place. It’s the newest resort on the Strip and every room in the hotel has authentic Hollywood memorabilia from a different movie. Our room’s movie is Cliffhanger, so we’ve got a jacket and knives and Stallone photos all over the room.
After grabbing some lunch around noon at the Planet Dailies, we did some moderate gambling on the penny slots, where Lauren won $21. We placed bets at a sports book on today’s Chargers game. I put $10 on Darren Sproles scoring the first touchdown. In the unlikely event that happens, I’ll win $91. Lauren put her money on the Chargers to beat the Colts. And that was the extent of our gambling.

56 degrees in Las Vegas!
We walked the Strip and saw the sites all afternoon. Lauren felt like we were breaking the law by carrying open alcohol containers down the street, but here, it is of course perfectly legal. Around 6 we ate dinner at a buffet. We both got uncomfortably full and came back to the room to lounge around until 8:30, when we headed over to New York New York to meet up with the Willow Lake gang. Dusty, who lives here in town, took us to a bar at Excalibur called Dick’s where the bartenders are all supposed to be jerks. Also there was Dusty’s wife Jenna, Jamie and her husband Tyler, and Jay LaBay and Melissa Thoreson. We spent a while reminiscing, but Lauren and I were the first to take off.
At 11:30 or so, we went to bed, thus ending our 21.5 hour day. We were out cold within minutes. This morning, Lauren is downstairs getting a pedicure at the spa. We gotta catch the Chargers game this afternoon, but other than that not a lot for plans. Tonight we plan on going out for a fancier dinner somewhere.

Last night, a small group of us hung out and kept things low-key for New Years Eve. The four roommates plus Walsh, Jason, and Cooney played Seinfeld SceneIt, Scattegories, and a couple card games, while drinking moderately and listening to cable music channels in the 900-range. It was a good time, and we were able to save quite a bit of money by not going out.
Some 2009 firsts include…
- first thing eaten: a hamburger, grilled at about 12:50am
- first TV show watched: Flight of the Conchords
- first movie watched: Bachelor Party (starring a young Tom Hanks)
- first text message received: Charlie Ahern, surprisingly
- first phone call received: still waiting! You can be the first if you act fast!
- first dollar spent: at our local ghetto K-Mart, bought food for kitty (see story below)
- first business visited: Wells Fargo, to deposit checks
- first beverage consumed: Korbel champagne
In other news around the house, the cat (who I accidentally brought back to Minneapolis with me after Christmas break in South Dakota) is doing just fine and probably loving it here at our house. Lauren and I went through many different names for it before settling on Manu, which is short for Chargers backup tight end Brandon Manumaleuna, who happened to be on TV at that particular moment. Manu pretty much stays in the basement, where it is secure from Roscoe. It’s got a litter box, dish, and plenty of food, not to mention mice to catch… and no other animals to fight against for food. Yep, he’s got it pretty sweet here!
Tonight, Lauren and I had best go to bed early. We’ve got to be up very early tomorrow to catch our 7am flight to Las Vegas. We’ll be spending the next 2+ days in 60-degree weather, winning a fortune at the casinos. We still haven’t made any definite plans once we get there, but we do intend to eat at some interesting restaurants, do a small bit of gambling, and meet up with Dusty Hovde. I also want to track down my old favorite karaoke bar the gang went to in 2004 on spring break, and again in 2007 while at a trade show for work.
Sunday, Lauren and I will have to part ways for six whole nights! Since I met Lauren on November 30, 2007, the only time we were apart for more than a day was when I went home for Christmas for three days that year. So it will be quite different to be apart for a while. Lauren says she has plenty of stuff here to keep her busy, like starting to clean out the upstairs for when we move out at the end of February.
I, on the other hand, will be working tirelessly to push the latest products at Macworld for four straight days. If this show is anything like the other two I’ve done for the company, it will be exhausting. It truly is far more difficult than a normal day of work. You’re standing all day with very minimal breaks, giving the same shpeel over and over. But, it also means I’m in San Francisco for six days, away from the cold and snow, eating meals on the company’s dime. I’m sure we’ll find wholesome stuff to do at night after the show each day.
I’m not sure if I’ll have much access to the internet over the next nine days, but I’ll see if I can find time to update with pictures and tales of my travels. See everyone next Saturday afternoon! Except Josh and Barry, who I’ll see Monday in SF.
2008 at a Glance… or Should I Say Glanz? December 31, 2008

2008 is very quickly winding down. With under seven hours to go, I can’t help but begin looking forward to the immediate fun to be had in 2009. Of course on Friday, Lauren and I are flying to Las Vegas for an inexpensive winter vacation. I’ll continue on to San Francisco Sunday night for the Macworld show. I’m excited for the trip! But before I get too carried away, I thought I’d take a moment to reflect on the magical year that was 2008.
The big highlights of the year involved the Glanzer children. In May, Jordan gave birth to Baby #3, Hudson William Krogman. And just a few days later, Alex said “I do” to longtime girlfriend Ann. Four short months later, it was my turn in the spotlight as Lauren accepted my marriage proposal in the presidential suite of the Minneapolis Depot hotel.
I also continued to slave away at MB Technology, where I suppose I am lucky to even still be employed after a few discrepencies between upper management and my website/blog. And when I would have had free time on the weekends, I instead loaded up my car and traveled all over Minnesota to DJ wedding dances. From Mankato to St. Cloud to St. Paul, I ate a lot of free meals, earned a few extra bucks, and heard “Cha Cha Slide” 3,493 times.
I traveled to Milwaukee and Chicago for baseball-related trips in the summer, and attended another 20 or so Twins home games. I also put together a men’s basketball team in Chaska, where we lost often but got a lot of exercise, as well as a co-ed softball team in Minneapolis, where we finished a respectable 5-8. What wasn’t respectable was our 0-20 record in the Eden Prairie co-ed “Gold League,” meant for players who play to win and not to enjoy themselves.
I also went tubing at Cannon Falls, took in a Vikings game, two Timberwolves games, a Wild game, reunited with old classmates over the 4th of July, and hosted Alex’s bachelor party full of minors.
I took my car to the shop more times than I can count. I got violently ill a couple times. I made 6.5 trips to South Dakota. I kidnapped a farm cat, flushed a fish (RIP Jarrod), and slept regularly with a beagle, albeit unwillingly.
Yes, 2008 certainly was a year to remember. What will 2009 hold in store? The big Glanzer/Poulter wedding, moving again, a trip to Las Vegas and San Francisco. Yes, 2009 should be one for the books as well.
Reception Venue Found December 3, 2008

Lauren and I were about to settle on the Olympic Hills Country Club in Eden Prairie as the site of our wedding reception next fall, but we had one last place to check out Monday after work, the Profile Event Center. Located very close to the U of M campus in Minneapolis, it’s just two blocks away from the brand new Gophers football stadium. And the price was so much better than anywhere else we’d looked. We kept waiting for the guy to drop some sort of bombshell, some huge tax or hidden fee, but it never came. And regardless of cost, it was still the coolest place we saw, so we wasted very little time in booking.
There were two different rooms we could pick from. One was more of a traditional reception room, while the other was this crazy state-of-the-art theater/night club room. Of course that’s the one I really wanted, while Lauren wanted the more traditional one. But both rooms have hi-tech built-in lighting, sound, and video systems. With the cameras and projection screens provided, we considered doing something like Kiss Cam at Twins’ games with the people in attendance. And there will be no need for a DJ since we can just plug my laptop into their house system.
There is still the concern of having 65,000 people crammed into TCF Field next door the same time as the reception. We checked the schedule and the day we wanted most, September 26, was taken, so we decided on October 3. But that’s the day Wisconsin plays Minnesota, so it could be a little crazy. The only fall Saturdays available with no football are September 5 and October 17, and we’re not sure if people would rather come over Labor Day weekend or if that would be a bad time. So don’t go marking October 3 on the calendars just yet. If you have an opinion one way or another on going to a wedding over Labor Day weekend, we’d like to hear from you!
In some other news, you may have heard I’m going to San Francisco the first week of January for the Macworld trade show. Since my plane ticket is already paid for by the company, I thought it would be a nice chance for Lauren and I to take a little trip together. We tried getting Lauren the same ticket as me going out to SFO, but the ticket price skyrocketed to over $700. In fact, every plane ticket to SFO was ridiculous. As it turned out, it was far cheaper to fly into Las Vegas. It was even cheaper for me to fly into Vegas, then from there go to SFO. So that’s the plan: we’ll fly to Vegas Friday morning, spend two whole days there, and on Sunday, Lauren will fly back to MSP and I’ll go on to my trade show. I talked to Dusty Hovde and we plan on meeting up while down there.
